WGBH Development Internship

Department Description: The Fundraising Systems Operations (FSO) department is part of the local Marketing and Development Division, which enables the WGBH Educational Foundation to carry out its mission by raising necessary funds from individuals, corporations, and foundations for current program support and special projects for TV, Radio and the Web. FSO is responsible for the processing of all financial donations to the WGBH Development department. FSO oversees the use of multiple technologies used in the processing of financial transactions. FSO is also responsible for helping operate and maintain the WGBH fundraising database. This includes the development and maintenance of a user documentation and training program for the database. FSO works closely with all of the areas of Development to help them meet their fundraising and database needs. FSO is the operational hub for the following fundraising and marketing areas: Membership, Leadership, Major Gifts, Corporate Gifts, Special Events, Customer Service, Telemarketing, Volunteers, Auction, Matching Gifts, Web Marketing, Pledge, and Incentives.

WGBH Intern Requirements:

  • WGBH internships are open only to students enrolled in an accredited college or university.
  • Interns must receive college credit for the internship.
  • Internships are unpaid.

College Major Desire:

Ideally the intern candidate would be majoring in non-profit studies. If that is not possible, then a Marketing degree would be the next best fit.

Skills Preferred:

Must be a mature, detailed-oriented individual and should have excellent organizational skills and the ability to take ownership of his/her projects.

Duties include but are not limited to:

Duties are divided into five separate categories, as follows:
  1. Marketing-related tasks:

  2. Prepare for WGBH On-Air Fundraising campaign:
    • Verify programs goals/results db against program grids
    • Add programs to TV pledge file
    • Collect premium samples
    • Collect product images for use on WGBH Web site
    • Obtain product price quotes from vendors
    • Obtain ISBN and UPC #s for premiums and enter into master database
    • Enter ticket codes in ticket code table
    • Prepare Premium information sheets for use during drives
    • Assemble premium descriptions master book
    • Send new premium codes to warehouse vendors
  3. Operations and Administrative tasks:
    • Prepare premiums for upload
    • Prepare new codes for TFI
    • Assist with WGBH Lobby Store (restocking inventory)
  4. Premium Orders:
    • Enter new premium codes and quantities ordered into Purchase Order system
    • Fax orders to vendors
    • Follow up on order receipt
  5. Premium Fulfillment Tasks:
    • Assist with in-house Ticket fulfillment (seat assignment and mail coordination)
    • Track Daily Premium receiving: In-house and external vendors
    • In-house fulfillment
    • Gather Items for Changes
    • Send Changes and Special Orders
    • Update Vendor Premium Files
    • Stuff premiums, update inventory files
