WGBH MEDIA LIBRARY - NSF Teacher's Domain Grant

Semester: Summer (Applications are accepted and evaluated on a rolling basis - it is best to apply as soon as you are able)

Department Description: The Media Library was formed to organize WGBH production materials for efficient access both during and after production. The organization of this material is the basis of our media library. The Media Library is also expert in copyright clearances and issues, and sells WGBH footage to outside producers.

The intern will be part of an interdepartmental team and will work closely with members of the WGBH Media Library. They will assist with content research and production of web-based multimedia resources for K-12 classroom use. The intern will research life sciences and related web sites and video and print materials, help identify items for inclusion in the site, and help create annotations for resources listed. The NSF-funded web site will be launched at the end of 2002.

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to): conduct internet, library and telephone research; maintain databases; dubbing and logging of tapes; general office assistance; read and evaluate materials from a variety of sources for inclusion in the Teacher's Domain.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate should (a) have good organization and research skills as well as general office skills, (b) know Macintosh and Filemaker Pro 3.0, and (c) have a broad biology background. Good writing skills are particularly valued. Applicants must be full-time students willing to work 15-20 hours per week. Scheduling is flexible, but students must receive academic credit for the internship.
