WGBH PBS LearningMedia MarketingInternship
WGBH is public service media for New England - on TV, radio, the Web, and out in the community.
We're the single largest producer of PBS prime-time and online programming, and a major source of
programs heard on public radio from coast to coast. We're a pioneer in educational multimedia and
in media access technologies for people with hearing or vision loss.
The WGBH Internship Program is designed to help students and the Foundation meet
our mutual educational goals. 'GBH wants to provide students with hands-on experience
through daily activities and assigned long-term projects.
Department Description:
PBS LearningMedia (www.PBSLearningMedia.org),
a joint project of WGBH and PBS, is a new,
free online service that makes the best of public media digital content and resources—from programs
like NOVA, Frontline, American Experience, and Sid the Science Kid—available for teachers to engage
today's students (PreK-16) in learning. Registration is free to educators everywhere
Internship Description:
The intern will work on a variety of marketing, public relations, and promotion efforts for
PBS LearningMedia, most notably the use of social networking tools, to introduce the new
service to educators.
Under the direction of the marketing manager the intern will play a key role in the
department's social media communications: determining topics, creating messages,
selecting platforms, scheduling and using such media as appropriate. The intern will also
assist the marketing team in reaching out to educators through email, online communities,
and related contact.
Projects and tasks may include
- Research and use social media as a platform to deliver PBS LearningMedia content.
- Identify appropriate content to deliver by social media.
- Devise appropriate messaging for social media.
- Assist in the development of PBS LearningMedia social media strategy.
- Write a paper advising the department on how it can develop its use of social media.
- Identify bloggers and publications who might be interested in sharing PBS
- LearningMedia content with their communities.
- Contact blogger and publications to advise them of appropriate content.
Looking For:
- Majors preferred but not limited to: Journalism, Communication, Public Relations, English, and Marketing
- Enthusiastic and experienced user of online social networking platforms (e.g. Facebook, Twitter).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience of editorial judgment.
- Proficiency in online research.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize.
- Strong follow-through and attention to detail.
15-20 hours per week commitment (Hours are flexible to work around a school schedule)

WGBH Intern Requirements:
- WGBH internships are open only to students enrolled in an accredited college or university.
- Internships are unpaid.
