NOVA Science Unit Internship
WGBH is public service media for New England - on TV, radio, the Web, and out in the community.
We're the single largest producer of PBS prime-time and online programming, and a major source of
programs heard on public radio from coast to coast. We're a pioneer in educational multimedia and
in media access technologies for people with hearing or vision loss.
Department Description:
Interns will work with WGBH's Science Unit, the Producer of NOVA, the premiere science series on
American television. Our interns work closely with NOVA staff, including its in-house documentary
production teams. They assist in many different aspects of editorial research and program production,
including the task of finding future science topics for NOVA. Interns often find opportunities to
work with particular film projects during the semester and attend occasional editorial screenings.
The internship is unsuitable for applicants looking for extensive "hands-on" shooting, field
production, or post-production experience.
Internship Description:
Telephone and library research; acquired footage research; reading and evaluating stories from
the science press; maintenance of film library; dubbing and logging of tapes; general office
assistance. 16-20 hours per week; hours are flexible.
Skills Preferred:
Good journalistic and writing skills are particularly valued. Interns come from a range of majors,
including science fields as well as journalism.
WGBH Intern Requirements:
- WGBH internships are open only to students enrolled in an accredited college or university.
- Internships are unpaid.
