NOVA Science Unit Education Internship

WGBH is public service media for New England - on TV, radio, the Web, and out in the community. We're the single largest producer of PBS prime-time and online programming, and a major source of programs heard on public radio from coast to coast. We're a pioneer in educational multimedia and in media access technologies for people with hearing or vision loss.

Department Description:

NOVA is the nation's longest running and most respected primetime science series. NOVA has a new Education and Outreach-focused division that is working to develop and nurture an educator community, expanding and deepening NOVA's national reach to formal and informal education partners. This involves developing new methods for reaching and building community, as well as establishing new strategic partnerships.

Internship Description:

Assisting in the development and sustaining of our educator community and partnerships: -Assisting in the planning and implementation of professional development opportunities at WGBH with partner scientists from a range of scientific fields. -Communicating and overseeing logistics with partner scientists and researchers.

Skills Preferred:

Graduate student in Science or Technology Education, with an Undergraduate degree in a scientific field is preferred. Must have experience in both science content/research and educational pedagogy or curriculum development.

Strong communication skills, with a focus on communicating with educators in both formal and informal educational settings.

Comfortable using web-based social network platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Constant Contact) for communicating and working with a large online educator community. Comfort with using Excel and database management programs. Ability to manage an RSS feed via Google Reader.

WGBH Intern Requirements:

  • WGBH internships are open only to students enrolled in an accredited college or university.
  • Internships are unpaid.
