Media Relations Internship
WGBH is public service media for New England - on TV, radio, the Web, and out in the community.
We're the single largest producer of PBS prime-time and online programming, and a major source of
programs heard on public radio from coast to coast. We're a pioneer in educational multimedia and
in media access technologies for people with hearing or vision loss.
Department Description:
Media Relations plans and implements promotion strategies locally and regionally to gain positive public visibility through media exposure for WGBH 2, WGBH 44; WGBH World, WGBH Create, 'GBH Kids; WGBH On Demand and WGBH High Definition. Media Relations promotes and publicizes WGBH 89.7 and our Cape and Islands NPR Station. The department also helps define the WGBH image in the telecommunications arena and represents WGBH to press on local and national institutional issues.
Internship Description:
The Media Relations intern will provide assistance and support to the Media Relations department on a variety of projects and day-to-day work. In addition to writing media advisories, event listings and press releases, the intern will update media and community contact databases, post materials on the WGBH Press Room, assemble press kits and complete other duties as assigned.
Skills Preferred:
Candidates should possess strong writing skills; familiarity with Mac computers and major software applications (Microsoft Word, FileMaker, etc.); ability to work independently on projects; and a basic understanding of administrative/office procedures. Familiarity with public broadcasting and WGBH programs is a major plus. College Major Desired: Mass Communications, Public Relations or Journalism majors preferred.
WGBH Intern Requirements:
- WGBH internships are open only to students enrolled in an accredited college or university.
- Internships are unpaid.
