Marketing & Operations Internship

WGBH is public service media for New England - on TV, radio, the Web, and out in the community. We're the single largest producer of PBS prime-time and online programming, and a major source of programs heard on public radio from coast to coast. We're a pioneer in educational multimedia and in media access technologies for people with hearing or vision loss.

The WGBH Internship Program is designed to help students and the Foundation meet our mutual educational goals. 'GBH wants to provide students with hands-on experience through daily activities and assigned long-term projects.

Department Description:

Lights! Cameras! Action! Fundraising for one of the nation's largest PBS station is an amazing experience that you can be a part of! WGBH Local Development Department enables the WGBH Educational Foundation to carry out its mission by raising necessary funds from individuals, corporations, and foundations for current program support for TV, Radio, and Web. "Thank You Gifts," also called premiums, are marketing tools used to acquire members and raise money at the annual fund, On Air for TV, Radio, and Web. Premiums are physical products (ie. DVDs, CDs, Books, etc.) or tickets for concerts and events also used by other departments within the "Foundation." The life of a premium is linear in scope in that it touches Marketing; Production; Vendors; In-bound and Out-bound calls; Promoters and Venues; Systems and Operations; Warehouse fulfillment; Accounting; and most important the donor for their contribution.

Working with the "Thank You Gifts" to raise money for WGBH Educational Foundation is an exceptional fundraising experience - to follow them through the marketing, pledge production, and operational process to fulfill the WGBH Educational mission.

Internship Description:

Assigned various marketing and operational projects and administrative tasks including, but not limited to:

  • Assist Marketing/Premium Coordinator with daily activities and projects to support WGBH Local Development Department
  • Perform market research and analyze fundraising results for TV and Radio "Thank You Gifts"
  • Prepare "Thank You Gift" marketing materials
  • Assist with marketing ideas and help create WGBH promotional "Thank You Gifts" for On Air fundraising
  • Collect "Thank You Gift" samples and images for On Air use
  • Assist with upkeep of communication, databases, inventory, and reporting
  • Enter "Thank You Gift" orders and communicate with vendors
  • Help reconcile monthly department expenses
  • Assist with Ticket fulfillment (seat assignment and mail coordination)
  • Interact with various departments within WGBH Local Development Department and Production

    Skills Preferred:

    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Excellent organizational and customer service skills
    • Proficiency in internet research
    • Competence on Macintosh computers/Microsoft Word and Excel software... knowledge of FileMaker Pro software a plus!
    • Ability to multi-task and prioritize
    • Strong follow-through and attention to detail
    • Able to work with a team as well as autonomously
    • Majors preferred but not limited to: Marketing, Business, Communications, Non-Profit Administration

    A commitment of 12-16 hours per week is ideal. Hours can be flexible to work around a school schedule.

    WGBH Intern Requirements:

    • A passion for public media! (Television, Radio, Web)
    • Must be able to cooperate and show willingness to assist others
    • WGBH internships are open only to students enrolled in an accredited college or university
    • Internships are unpaid
    • Interns should be able to work 12-16 hrs/wk. Hours can be flexible to work around a school schedule.
    • Should be able to easily walk up and down stairs, bend down, reach, push and pull and lift up to 20 pounds
