Major Gifts Research
WGBH is public service media for New England - on TV, radio, the Web, and out in the community.
We're the single largest producer of PBS prime-time and online programming, and a major source of
programs heard on public radio from coast to coast. We're a pioneer in educational multimedia and
in media access technologies for people with hearing or vision loss.
The WGBH Internship Program is designed to help students and the Foundation meet our
mutual educational goals. 'GBH wants to provide students with hands-on experience
through daily activities and assigned long-term projects.
Department Description:
TThe Major Gifts Department is responsible for raising funds from individuals and
family foundations that can support WGBH at a significant level for annual operating,
restricted gift and WGBH Endowment. The team works closely with WGBH executives, board
members and other high-level volunteers. The Department plays a key role in helping fund
WGBH programs such as Masterpiece, American Experience, Frontline, NOVA and many other
nationally recognized programs.
The Research Unit of the department helps identify and research prospective donors to
support the Major Gift and high-end annual fund activities for WGBH using their knowledge
of best practices in the growing field of prospect research, prospect management and
data analysis.
Internship Experience:
The WGBH Major Gift Research Intern will have the opportunity to gain an in-depth
understanding of development research, data management and Major Gift fundraising as
well as an overall introduction to the fundraising profession.
The intern will work with the Research Manager on different activities and projects
to support WGBH's Major Gift Department.
Projects and tasks may include:
- Assist with the Major Gifts Department's efforts to develop a new donor database and prospect management system in Salesforce
- Support the Research Unit reference and transfer key donor data to new system.
- Help update and track research on Major Gift's prospects and donors.
- Assist Manager with developing new prospect management system.
Looking For:
Majors preferred but not limited to: Social Sciences, Statistics or Data Sciences.
- Eagerness to learn new skills and willingness to explore new challenges
- Excellent computer and data management skills
- Strong follow-through and attention to detail
- Proficiency in internet research
- Competence on Macintosh computers/Microsoft Word and Excel software...knowledge of Sales
force or other customer relationship management (CRM) software a plus!
- 10-15 hours per week commitment (Hours are flexible to work around a school schedule)

WGBH Intern Requirements:
- WGBH internships are open only to students enrolled in an accredited college or university.
- Internships are unpaid.
