WGBH Lifestyles Internship
WGBH is public service media for New England - on TV, radio, the Web, and out in the community.
We're the single largest producer of PBS prime-time and online programming, and a major source of
programs heard on public radio from coast to coast. We're a pioneer in educational multimedia and
in media access technologies for people with hearing or vision loss.
Department Description:
The WGBH Lifestyle Production Unit is responsible for producing programs about cooking,
gardening, travel, health, music and other subjects related to contemporary living for
national distribution on PBS. Some of the series we produce and oversee include:
Live Outdoors: The Victory Garden, Simply Ming, Gourmet's Diary of a Foodie, From
the Top at Carnegie Hall, This Old House, Ask This Old House and
Food Trip with Todd English, among others.
Internship Description:
As an intern for the Lifestyles Unit, you will be directly involved in a variety of television production processes. Responsibilities might include: general research; logging, dubbing and archiving tape; acting as a liaison between producers, editors and engineers; delivering production materials throughout the building; updating and maintaining materials for the Executive Producer; answering phones and greeting guests; preparing mailings and packages for shipment to PBS; occasional assistance on field shoots; and assisting the entire Lifestyles team as assigned. While the internship is generally administrative in nature, it offers students an opportunity to gain an understanding of the industry through the hands-on experiences provided.
Skills Preferred:
- Familiarity with Mac computers (knowledge of Excel, Adobe Photoshop and various tape formats are a plus).
- Excellent organization; good research, writing and general office skills.
- Previous experience in college-level production courses encouraged.
WGBH Intern Requirements:
- WGBH internships are open only to students enrolled in an accredited college or university.
- Internships are unpaid.
