Labor Relations/Law Internship
Internship Description:
Interested in gaining real work experience in labor and employment law?
Wondering about grievance and dispute resolution?
Want to learn how collective bargaining agreements are interpreted and applied in real case situations?
If you have experience conducting legal research, know how to analyze and resolve problems,
can write effective legal communications, are comfortable in potential conflict situations,
have a demonstrated interest in labor and employment law either through coursework or experience,
and are interested in nonprofit management, this could be the opportunity for you!
The office of the Counsel for Labor and Employee Relations at WGBH seeks support in:
- Conducting legal research using Westlaw and other resources
- Drafting objective, persuasive legal communications
- Gathering information and preparing responses concerning disputes and grievances filed by the unions
- Assisting with contract administration and employment law interpretation

The Counsel for Labor and Employee Relations is a key office in the Human Resources Department,
responsible for setting direction and overseeing union relationships. This includes advising on
employment law, negotiating collective bargaining agreements, handling grievances, and
representing WGBH before the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination (MCAD), the Equal
Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and state and federal courts.
We are accepting letters of interest from students seeking co-op or
internship opportunities now or in the 2009 fall semester.
Others may be eligible for short-term, temporary project assignments.
WGBH Intern Requirements:
- WGBH internships are open only to students enrolled in an accredited college or university.
- Interns must receive college credit for the internship.
- Internships are unpaid.
