WGBH Interactive: Promotional Strategy Internship

WGBH is public service media for New England - on TV, radio, the Web, and out in the community. We're the single largest producer of PBS prime-time and online programming, and a major source of programs heard on public radio from coast to coast. We're a pioneer in educational multimedia and in media access technologies for people with hearing or vision loss.

Department Description:

WGBH Interactive has played an influential role in the development of the interactive media arts since 1985. Our Web sites, CD-ROMs, DVDs, and other interactive environments have repeatedly won critical acclaim from media, publishing, education, and design leaders throughout the world. Today, millions visit the WGBH Interactive Web sites developed for public television (PBS.org, PBSkids.org), and thousands more explore our learning environments through educational portals, institutional sites, and stand-alone products.

Internship Description:

The Interactive intern will assist with the production and launch of a broadband video series by, for, and about teenagers with type 2 diabetes, hosted on PBS.org. His/her main project will be developing an online promotional strategy for the series, using social media tools. But, she/he will be involved in all aspects of web production, from research to content preparation to online promotion to site evaluation.

There is the possibility of assisting with online video production. The intern will be welcome at all meetings, and will be encouraged to explore areas of individual interest.

Skills Preferred:

The ideal intern is detail-oriented and organized. He/she is web-savvy, comfortable using new social media tools, and willing to learn new skills and software. She/he should be interested in media production, with a particular interest in online media, educational media, and digital communications.

The intern should be familiar with PBS.org websites, as well as social media websites (Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, etc).

WGBH Intern Requirements:

  • WGBH internships are open only to students enrolled in an accredited college or university.
  • Interns must receive college credit for the internship.
  • Internships are unpaid.
