WGBH Human Resources Internship

Semester: Fall, Spring, Summer
Days: Flexible

WGBH's Human Resources department partners with internal customers to provide a broad array of programs and services. HR partners with management to recruit and retain a highly qualified diverse workforce; facilitate positive employee and labor relations; provides professional development and mentoring to enhance employee skills, performance and job satisfaction; and designs and delivers fair, competitive benefit and compensation programs.

WGBH Internship Requirements:

  1. WGBH internships are open only to students enrolled in an accredited college or university
  2. Interns must receive college credit for the internship.
  3. Internships are unpaid

Duties: The Human Resources intern will be responsible for assisting the staff in various aspects of hiring, benefits administration, compensation, and training and development programs.

The internship position will provide opportunities for students to learn about the many aspects of HR administration including: resume screening, interviewing, new employee orientation, employee relations, and employee benefit plans. The student will work closely with the entire staff to gain an understanding of Human Resources through the hands-on experiences provided.

In providing an opportunity for students to learn about general HR practices, the intern is required to have the following skills:

  • excellent oral and written skills
  • familiarity with Microsoft Word
  • excellent customer service skills
  • a general sense of administrative management

For qualified interns working with the Human Resources Department, the following duties will be required:

  • assist the HR staff in various aspects including answering phones, responding to employee questions and requests, filing, employment references and verifications, scheduling meetings, and resume vetting and handling
  • assist the Benefits staff with reporting and data analyses
  • attend all staff meetings
  • provide support to the HR Assistant and Human Resources Business Partners to learn administrative aspect of HR
  • perform related duties and special projects as assigned
