Greater Boston Summer Internship
Under the supervision of Tonia Brown, Director for Greater Boston, interns will be responsible for assisting the staff in various phases of the production process. The internship program at Greater Boston is designed to provide opportunities for students to learn about all phases of production including:
- Tape logging
- EFP field production
- Editing
- Pre- and post-production coordinating
- Research and story development
- Studio production
The interns will work closely with producers, associate producers and management staff to gain a full understanding of television production. In providing an opportunity for students to learn production from these various areas, the interns will be required to have the following skills:
- Knowledge of broadcast media
- Excellent oral and written skills
- Familiarity with Microsoft Word; Microsoft Excel; Online services and Lexus/Nexus
- Excellent research skills
- A general sense of administrative management
For qualified interns working with Greater Boston, the following duties will be required, but not limited to:
- Assist the production staff in various aspects of field production such as field shoots, logging tapes, video duplication, online research., and other duties as assigned by producer
- Research show topics via newspaper, magazines, online services as well as initiating telephone calls to applicable guests
- Attend all staff and story development meetings
- Attend all field and studio productions when available
- Attain skills to assist in the producing of segments which will include the field producing, logging and editing of applicable segments
- Provide clerical and administrative support for the production and management team of Greater Boston
- And, have a general sense of Massachusetts's news including politics, arts, education and law enforcement
In accordance with WGBH 's Intern/Work programs, the intern must:
- Be in attendance of an accredited college or university at the undergraduate or graduate level
- Earn academic credit for internship
- Provide confirmation of credit eligibility from college registrar's office
- Work a minimum of 25 hours a week
Students working for Greater Boston will have their internship terminated if:
- interns do not maintain a consistent work schedule
- Show a limited interest in the production of Greater Boston
- Do not notify staff of tardiness or absence
- Unable to perform the required duties listed above
Students whose internship is terminated will not receive college credit.
