WGBH Forum Network Internship
WGBH is public service media for New England - on TV, radio, the Web, and out in the community.
We're the single largest producer of PBS prime-time and online programming, and a major source of
programs heard on public radio from coast to coast. We're a pioneer in educational multimedia and
in media access technologies for people with hearing or vision loss.
Department Description:
WGBH Forum Network partners with local organizations to present online,
on-demand lectures, readings, panels, and other related events. Forum-network.org
hosts thousands of lectures on a variety of topics - from science to the humanities,
from local to global. Forum Network is committed to providing outstanding educational
content for lifelong learners, and to encouraging deeper understanding and civic
engagement around the vital issues of our time.
Internship Description:
Web Video Internships (2 available):
The Web Video Interns will help videotape public lectures and make updates to
the WGBH Forum Network website. This is an excellent opportunity for
students looking to gain experience in Internet video production and distribution.
Web Video
- Assist with the recording of video and sound at public events
- Assist with processing digital video for Internet distribution
- represent the WGBH Forum Network to the public in a professional manner
Website/Administration
- Assist with uploading videos and audio to the Forum Network website
- Assist with data entry on the website, such as descriptions about events and speakers, and updating a calendar of local events
- Assist with the compilation of reports about web video traffic for partners
Shifts for taping events are primarily in the early evening hours on weekdays,
while shifts for post production and website/administrative work will take
place during business hours. Schedule is flexible. Minimum commitment is 12
hours a week, to be split between events and office tasks.
Skills Preferred:
Some prior video production experience is preferred; should feel comfortable
using digital camcorders, and familiarity with editing software (Final Cut,
Premiere, or Avid) is a plus. Good attention to detail, strong writing skills,
and familiarity with Microsoft Office are required.
Experience with blogging or uploading web video are a plus. Car access is
helpful, but not required. Must possess enthusiasm for educational content
and online media.
WGBH Intern Requirements:
- WGBH internships are open only to students enrolled in an accredited college or university.
- Internships are unpaid.
