Special Events Internship

WGBH is public service media for New England - on TV, radio, the Web, and out in the community. We're the single largest producer of PBS prime-time and online programming, and a major source of programs heard on public radio from coast to coast. We're a pioneer in educational multimedia and in media access technologies for people with hearing or vision loss.

Department Description:

WGBH's Special Events department produces a wide variety of community and membership events each year that promote and support WGBH in its mission including festivals, promotional events, membership events and partnerships with other organizations. The intern would gain experience working on the WGBH Guest Street Session series, which highlights current content connected to our TV and radio productions, our In Performance series featuring Classical, Jazz and Celtic performances, WGBH Auction related events and WGBH Kids & Family events.

Internship Description:

The intern will assist the Special Events staff with event logistics, facility rentals, and WGBH in-house events. The intern will also update and maintain the department wide events calendar, communicate with prospective clients, assist in the creation of event presentation materials, assist the Special Events staff with reporting and data analysis, and assist with day-of event set up and breakdown with staff and volunteers. The internship will primarily take place during normal business hours but requires occasional evening and weekend availability each month when assisting with some of the events. Interns will also help with general office work and various other tasks as assigned.

Skills Preferred:

To be considered, candidates must be in their junior or senior year of college, have strong people and writing skills and knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite (including Word, Excel and Powerpoint) and be generally familiar with Apple computers. Knowledge of the Adobe Suite is preferred, however, not required. The Special Events Managers are happy to work around busy school schedules, but interns will be required to help work some week night or weekend events. Marketing, Communications, Public Relations and Business majors are encouraged to apply.

WGBH Intern Requirements:

  • WGBH internships are open only to students enrolled in an accredited college or university.
  • Internships are unpaid.
