WGBH RADIO Internship for the Emily Rooney Show
WGBH is public service media for New England - on TV, radio, the Web, and out in the community.
We're the single largest producer of PBS prime-time and online programming, and a major source of
programs heard on public radio from coast to coast. We're a pioneer in educational multimedia and
in media access technologies for people with hearing or vision loss.
Department Description:
The Emily Rooney Show is a midday news radio program, broadcasting
live on weekdays from 12pm-1pm, out of 89.7 fm WGBH in Boston.
Internship Description:
The Emily Rooney Show is looking for an intern to work 20-40 hours a week.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Story pitches and developing those pitches for broadcast
- Selection of, contact with, and scheduling of program guests
- Gathering background materials, preparing research for host
- News writing for broadcast on deadline
- Gathering and editing of audio material in the field and from other sources
- Greeting and preparation of program guests
- All administrative duties as assigned
Skills Preferred:
Candidate must have excellent organizational and communication skills,
must be an avid news consumer and have an interest in current events, arts,
culture, history, science and public policy. Graduate students focusing on broadcast
journalism will be given preference. However, if a candidate is exceptionally strong
and has some proven experience in broadcast and/or journalism, we will
consider an undergraduate student.
WGBH Intern Requirements:
- WGBH internships are open only to students enrolled in an accredited college or university.
- Internships are unpaid.
