Department Description:
Antiques Roadshow is the highest rated prime time television show on PBS,
with over 10 million regular viewers. This television show asks the public to bring
in their collectibles and antiques to production locations across the country.
Thousands of people arrive at our locations to have their items appraised free of charge.
Selected items are videotaped with an expert from one of the leading auction houses in America.
This "live to tape" production is in production during the summer and involved in pre-production
and post-production in the fall, winter, and spring months.
WGBH Internship Requirements:
- WGBH internships are open only to students enrolled in an accredited college or university
- Interns must receive college credit for the internship.
- Internships are unpaid
College Major Desired: Television or Media Arts majors preferred
Skills Preferred:
The intern we are seeking must have superior organizational abilities,
excellent written and oral communication skills, and be able to work
effectively with a team of people in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
Familiarity with the Internet is necessary.
Television production experience is helpful, but not required.
Duties:
The role of the intern on Antiques Roadshow will be as a member of the production team,
providing much-needed support in the production office. The intern will be immersed in
the environment of television production at WGBH. They will act as liaison between the
traveling crew and the in-house production staff: updating production files as information
comes in from the road, organizing and shipping tapes to the various locations, sending out
production schedules to the crew and generally assisting everyone in the office. In addition,
they will assist the show's marketing team with email correspondence, web site updates, press
clippings, and other event promotion duties. The position also includes work in post-production:
assisting the team in updating production files, organizing and logging tapes, shutting down shows
and maintaining administrative files and databases. The intern may also have the opportunity to
attend an audio mix and/or sit in on a session with the editor.
